In the details...

God is all about the details.  He is not some far-off being who looks down on us.  He knows the number of hairs on our heads, he has numbered our days, he has planned out our days...with great detail...

Wednesday was one of those days where I had one plan...but God had another.
Zoë Kate's eyes have always been prone to crossing or floating, but it has become more noticeable lately.  I mentioned it to her doctor at her check up last week and she referred us to an ophthalmologist for an exam.  They had the referral rushed due to our move.
Let me share with you the details of our day yesterday and notice the ways God provided and blessed us :
0700 - Wake up late. Think about skipping shower but nagging voice persuades me to get my act together, just because...
0830 - Leave to take boys to school and race to the eye doctor.
0900 - Drop boys at school and realize I have forgotten Connor's towel for water day, but I have until 1045 to deliver one to him.
0915 - Pull up to Zoë's appointment right on time because my mom had stayed in town another day and I didn't have to unload/reload Zoë at school drop off.
1000 - Realize I will miss towel-drop-off-deadline, so Mom leaves us at the doctor and heads to the store and school to take Connor a towel.
1000-1100 - Still at doctor and finding out that this is not something just a patch or glasses can fix.  It's either a neurological issue (read:brain tumor) or a syndrome (read:birth defect).  Doctor not confident to diagnose, refers us to a pediatric specialist almost 2 hours away.
1100 - As doctor walks us to front desk to get referral going, mom returns.  Perfect timing. Nurse calls specialist and finds out they have an appointment today at 2pm.  I call NHP Peds, who only recently gave out their direct phone line, to find out if we can get insurance authorization that quickly.
1120 - Peds gives us the green light to go to the appointment, assuring us they will rush the authorization.
1130 - Drop off car seats at school so Alan can pick up the boys which his schedule allowed today.
1145 - On the road, heading down the coast about 50 miles.  Traffic was light on 98 and we made good time. Zoë napped in the car all the way and we even arrived early enough to have lunch.
1350 - We arrived at the Pediatric Ophthalmologist's office, however, the referral had not.
1400-1440 - In waiting room, on phone with NHP Peds again, pushing referral and authorization. Thankfully, Grandma is along and able to entertain Zoë. Got authorization!
1500 - Finally see the Pediatric Ophthalmologist who diagnoses Zoë Kate with Duane's Syndrome, Type 1, not a brain tumor.
1530 - Back on the road heading home.  Traffic on 98 was light, again, a miracle!
1715 - HOME, in time to scarf down some dinner and get to Wednesday night church which included AWANA awards for the boys.

As is evident in all the italicized/underlined portions of our day, God showed us his faithfulness!  While the words BIRTH DEFECT are kind of hard to digest, we praise God that we found all this out in just ONE short day and it is not something life-threatening.  This is chromosomal abnormality that formed sometime between my 3rd and 8th week of pregnancy.  There are complications that may arise with her syndrome, but she will see a specialist a few times a year.

THANK YOU, Lord, for how you have created our bodies and how deeply you love and care for us, so much that you bless us with what seem like the tiniest details in our days!
