Last Friday, Alan tells his Commander, "Sir, I am sorry that we won't be able to attend the holiday party at your house tonight, but my wife and I are attending a marriage conference this weekend." Monday morning rolls around and the Colonel asks Alan, "So, how was the marriage conference?" Alan replies, "It was great, Sir!" His boss replies back, "Well, I think it's great that you and your wife are working out your problems and getting help. My first wife and I just lost communication and that's how I ended up divorced. If you need any time off to work on things, you let me know." The Colonel walked into his office before Alan could respectfully correct him and explain...
I immediately said, "Well tell him you need some time off, Baby! Take advantage!" We laughed, but isn't that the state of our world today! It's so sad. People enter marriages without committing to forever and they don't make their marriages a priority. Alan and I, following the footsteps of almost all of our married friends, attended a Family Life Marriage Conference called, Weekend to Remember. If you haven't heard of it, it's a ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ and you can check it out at http://www.familylife.com. We highly recommend it! Contrary to his commander's assumption, we went to the conference to celebrate our marriage; It is a great place to refocus on one another, center your marriage on Christ, work out conflicts, communicate better, have a date night and catch up on sleep since there are no children allowed!
Thank you very much to Grandma Hart who bravely gave up sleep and changed countless dirty diapers in order for us to truly have a weekend to remember!
