FamilyLife Book Series

So, it finally happened.  Completely randomly, Connor asked tonight, "How do babies get out of mommies tummies?"

"UH...oh great," was my first thought.  Then, I called for Daddy.  THEN, I went and found the above book.  THANK GOD we purchased this series published by FamilyLife when the boys were just babies.  They have been sitting on a shelf for years, but we were so glad to have them tonight!  And THANK GOD we have the opportunity to share the facts with our kids before they learn lies from someone else.

Part of me wants to protect their innocence, but let's be honest, in this world...with kids on the internet, kids on smart phones, kids watching all kinds of inappropriate TV, kids in broken or bad home situations...innocence is quickly replaced with Satan's lies and perversion of what God created and intended for our bodies.  And we want our kids grounded in God's TRUTH about ALL THINGS.  Especially in matters of s.ex.uality, marriage and purity.

So we read the boys this first book tonight.  It's for ages 3-5 and it established basic truths and shared basic facts such as, God wants daddies and mommies to be married before they have kids, marriage is between a man and a woman, only boys can be daddies and only girls can be mommies because God gave them specific, named, body parts, etc...  The next book in the series is titled, Before I Was Born (ages 5-8), followed by What's the Big Deal: Why God Cares About S.ex (ages 8-11), then Facing the Facts: The Truth About S.ex and You (ages 11-14).  There is a parents book, too, called How and When to Tell Your Kids About S.ex: A Lifelong Approach to Shaping Your Child's Sexual Character.

The Story of Me book that we read tonight answered Connor's question and more!  Yes, he may go to school tomorrow and we may have a "Kindergarten Cop" moment where he shares with his class some of the new facts he learned, but you know what, it's the TRUTH!

Whoa. We have to get those books. Just last night Josh and I were watching TV and a preview came up for a show that had a girl and guy going into a hotel room on prom night. Josh literally grabbed M and hugged her so tight she started pushing him away. We both are terrified of her growing up and dealing with those issues. Thanks for at least a little help in that department. Hope all is well!

So thankful you shared this! I saw your comment on Facebook and was wondering which books you had. I was thinking this needed to be added to our "school" books collection. {{{huggs}}}
