Advent is upon us, and I LOVE advent season! The day after Thanksgiving, we get all the Christmas boxes out of the attic and the decorating begins: tree, garland, wreath, lights, balls, baubles, knick-knacks, nativities… yes that was plural.
We have not one, not two, but SEVEN nativities that go out every year. Two are strictly for decoration. One is part of our nightly Bible reading. Four are just for the kids to play with. (Because of Zoë, we actually only put out two to play with this year.) Still sounds like a lot? Nah! There is nothing sweeter than hearing my little ones play, “Mary, Joseph and Jesus.” We have several traditions in our house over the advent season, but having all the nativities for the kids is my favorite.
That’s what it is all about, after all. It’s about remembering God’s greatest gift to us, His son, Jesus Christ. Playing and acting out the story over and over again helps my kids learn about, and focus on God. They get excited for Jesus’ birthday! That’s why I love advent! It’s a fabulous time to focus on Christ and prepare for the biggest and best birthday party of the year!
Happy Advent!

The boys were SO excited to decorate the tree. They did most of it by themselves and it looks really good! We only had to spread out a couple clusters of ornaments and they only broke one in the whole process. After the ornaments were on, Connor got the honors of placing the star on top.

Sunday was officially the start of advent and this year we are actually using our advent wreath. Meaning rather than just being a
dust collector centerpiece, this year we are reading Bible passages at dinner each night and actually lighting the candles.

Also to celebrate the start of advent, the kids opened a new nativity on Sunday. Believe it or not, we didn't have the fisher price little people nativity in our collection and I thought Zoë would really appreciate it. Plus, we couldn't put out a couple of the kids' sets this year because of all the small pieces.

So, two things:
1. You are an amazing house keeper.
2. I think it's so fun that you have 7...8 nativity sets. It's good for me to see that your kids are older now that you've started using the candles and stuff because I get a little bit lost as to what to really do with 1 and 2 year olds. I'm thinking it's ok that we're not sitting around doing devotionals together yet. Clair still wants to be in control of whatever it is we're "reading"
