Beep, Beep!

Regarding my earlier post about commissary follies, I can add another incident from today.

I love the rocket carts and they are fun for the boys because they face forward and each have a steering wheel to "drive" the cart. Of course, Connor spins his wheel, honks the pretend horn and shouts out, "Beep, Beep!" A child at play...what's the big deal you ask? Well you see, Randolph AFB is home to countless retirees and unless you do your shopping the hour before closing, the store is jam packed with elderly folks. They are always very sweet and like to comment on how cute the boys are; however, they do not take kindly to a two year old shouting, "Beep, Beep!" in a crowded aisle. He isn't saying, "Beep, Beep" to them, just playing pretend but that's not how it comes across.

Twice today, while backed up in different aisles behind couples, Connor yells, "Beep, Beep!" They immediately turned around, glared at us and I spit out a quick apology and explaination that he was merely pretending to drive his car; he was not "honking" at them.

When he does get impatient with the crowds, Connor just yells out, "S'cuse me!" Lovely, eh?! We really need to work on volume control...at the very least.

I guess all the uptight retirees are in Texas and the laidback ones are here in California. Regardless of whether I think my children are being good or not, the old people google over them. Sometimes I'm like, "Really? You think that's cute? Do you wanna take him home?" :-)
